The holotype of this species is near Calitzdorp and according to Jan and Anne Lise Vlok the plants are endangered and restricted to the Calitzdorp area, while other authors regard the distribution to be wider.

Glottiphyllum regium growing quite abundantly south of Calitzdorp.Due to their limited distribution however and overgrazing in the area the plants are regarded as endangered.	Flower.	The long flower stalk is characteristic of this species.
