Distribution:

Astroloba halii n.n. (Reinecke) is part of an interesting range of Astroloba species found north of the Swartberg range in the Great Karoo. Orginally destined for publication around 1965, the work however never went to the press.

The type locality is given at Rouxspos and the photographs included here are from Vleiland, a number of kilometers the the east. The plants here look rather similar to the ones from Rouxpos and I take it to be the same species.

Astroloba halii is an attractice species with dark maroon/brown stripes on the leaves. This feature is more prominent when the plants are grown in full sun.

The Genus Astroloba is very closely related to Haworthia and should perhaps be incorporated into the latter. More field work desperately needs to be done on the genus.
