Ornithogalum comptum occurs mainly in the Eastern Cape, but extents also to the eastern part of the Western Cape.
The small-medium sized bulbs are mainly subterranean and have stiff twisted grey-green keeled leaves. The bulbs are somewhat evergreen depending on rainfall with an attractive raceme of flowers that is produced during November. It usually has some dead leaves on display during winter or summer.
Lately the plants have been included under Ornithogalum juncifolium but this is probably premature.
