Cyphia sylvatica is a bulbous plant and climber that occurs widespread from the Little Karoo to Kwazulu Natal in South Africa

The plants usually climb in bushes reaching a height of about 1 meter, but sometimes considerably higher in trees.

It is a winter grower and the plants flower in spring, often with a multitude of tiny flowers with varying patterns from white to mauve.

It is difficult to to tell the different Cyphia species apart but Cyphia sylvatica has leaves with irregular edges that are not dissected unlike in some related species.

The leaves can have small teeth along the margins.
