This large growing Haworthia from Komserante and Soetmelksrivier east of Riverdale is often regarded as synonomous with Haworthia retusa. The relationship seems clear although the plants are inclined to be yellowish green and larger. For practical purposes I retain the name Haworthia fouchei on this website for easier reference and to emphasise the diversity in the genus. Haworthia geraldii, which is similar but smaller and has a tendency to form large clumps occurs on the same hill at Komserante. Gerhard Marx mentions that Haworthia fouchei in cultivation also tends to form clumps and the plants are then smaller.
