Distribution: | Africa: South Africa: Western Cape: |
A variable species that has a number of recognized subspecies or varieties. The distribution is from the Oudtshoorn district towards Anysberg in the the Ladismith district. A number of localities are found in the Calitzdorp area. South of Kruisrivier (Prinspoort): Plants growing in mountainous habitat often with long slender leaves. Sometimes on steep rather inaccessible slopes. It sometimes shares habitat with a Haworthia mucronata form with which it hybridizes. The plants are usually clearly channeled. South west of Ladismith. At this locality the plants grow on a moderate shale slope extending downwards onto the level ground at the foot of the hill. The leaves are usually shorter than those from south of Kruisrivier. Near Calizdorp: Haworthia blackburniae 'calitzmontana', A form with rather broad and succulent leaves is found on a mountain near Calitzdorp. The plants are usually only vaguely channeled. Varietal or subspecies status maybe justified considering that Haworthia derustensis is regarded by some as a subspecies or Haworthia graminifolia a separate species.
