This bulb occurs widespread in many provinces of South Africa as well as in Namibia. The yellow flowers appear in late spring. There is some variation in the leaves and flowers from different localities.

Leaves of Cyanella lutea from near Barrydale in the Little Karoo.	Flowers from near Oudtshoorn.	Leaves from near Oudtshoorn also in the Little Karoo.
